Powered by the moon's gravitational pull, as well as the Moon Spirit and Ocean Spirit, waterbenders
posess the ability to hydrokinetically manipulate water in all its forms.
Other than the United Republic, the people of the Water Tribes can be found mainly in three different tribes across the globe: the Northern Tribe, the Southern Tribe,
and the Foggy Swamp Tribe. The main differences between the three tribes are as follows:

Appearance Blue eyes, blue winter clothing made from pelts of arctic animals. When women become marriageable, at 16, they wear a blue 'betrothal necklace' carrying a pendant carved by their fiance. Green eyes, no footwear, green clothing - made from plants of the swamp - for camouflage.
Language Sophisticated language, with few colloquialisms. Modern language, using some colloquialisms and slang words. Informal and "unsophisticated" language with inspiration from style and mannerisms of the Southern USA
Cultural Gender Roles Women are trained as healers, while men are trained in waterbending. Women are often forced into arranged marriages. No strict rules toward gender roles, though young girls are taught to sew and clean while young boys are taught to defend the tribe. Overall, more open- minded than the Norther Tribe. No divide, both male and female members share work and are involved in combat.
